‘Read This Book!’: Cookbooks

By December 14, 2017May 13th, 2021The Kerlan Blog

Read this Book is a video series of book talks and interviews that give the  librarians of the University of Minnesota an opportunity to share their excitement about new and backlist titles.

One of the joys of being a librarian at the University of Minnesota is cool colleagues recommending their favorites. Megan always makes me want to try something new in the kitchen.

Science Librarian Megan Kocher discusses cookbooks in this episode of “Read This Book!” from the University of Minnesota Libraries.

The books are:

Edible Twin Cities: The Cookbook by Angelo Gentile

Minnesota’s Farmers Market Cookbook by Tricia Cornell and Paul Markert

Minnesota’s Bounty: The Farmers Market Cookbook by Beth Dooley

Original Local: Indigenous Foods, Stories, and Recipes from the Upper Midwest

by Heid E. Erdrich

The New Midwestern Table by Amy Thielen.

My stack of “to-be-read” children’s and YA books is pretty high, but every once in a while, I take a break. A title that is a palate cleanser. Most recently that title was Thielen’s memoir of working in high-pressure, top-chef restaurants in in growing up in Minnesota, working in 4 star restaurants in  New York City, and coming back home again.

Each of the books are part of the University of Minnesota’s Kirschner Cookbooks Collection. Kocher is the curator for this collection. For more information, please refer to the Kirschner Cookbooks Collection blog.
